Our Mission:

To provide parents, teachers, educators and care givers with books that will help them explain difficult subjects to preschool and young children.

 President/Treasurer: Nikki Sian-Leigh Aksamit

After years as a freelance writer, Nikki created the "Mommy, What is...?" series to answer the difficult questions her own children asked. Realizing that they could provide clarity to other children as they had done for her kids, Nikki tried to find a traditional publisher to produce them, without much success. After receiving numerous, "These books are great but they're not money makers" rejection letters, Nikki decided that turning The "Mommy, What is...?" Project into a non-profit organization was the surest way to get her books into the hands of kids who may need them. Through schools, libraries and other non-profit organizations, she hopes the "Mommy, What is...?" books can give kids some straight forward answers to their tough questions.

 Vice President: Sevin Aksamit

After 15 years in corporate Hospitality and three years as a small business owner, Sevin has the knowledge to form and sustain the structure of The "Mommy, What is...?" Project. As the father of three small children, he understands the importance of giving them all the information they need at a young age. "Kids are much more perceptive than most people give them credit for. If we don't explain what's going on in their world, we leave them confused and frustrated. These books give them the simple answers they need."

  Secretary: Sarah Wilhite

Her previous involvement in community theater and love of all books contributed to Sarah's excitement about The "Mommy, What is...?" Project. Her management and research skills have helped shape the intial focus of distribution. Her role as community and education liason will continue to help move The "Mommy, What is...?" Project in the right direction.

 Distribution: Shannon Peters

Shannon's past experiece working with Easter Seals showed him how working with kids can make a huge impact in their lives. His years of experience in marketing and sales are helping to shape the path of distribution the "Mommy, What is...?' books will initially follow.
